“Hero 2 Hired” Mobile Job Store Arrives in DC
One-of-a-kind vehicle is equipped with tools to help service members in employment search

WASHINGTON (May 16, 2012) – The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs’ “Hero 2 Hired” program rolls into the D.C. area May 16-17, 2012 with their Mobile Job Store (MJS) operation. The “Hero 2 Hired” program, better known as H2H, is a comprehensive, multi-faceted program which utilizes an electronic job and career web platform, mobile applications and Facebook integration, and virtual and physical career fairs to address the unique employment challenges facing members of the Guard and Reserve.

The Mobile Job Store allows Guard and Reserve attendees to search for available jobs through the H2H jobs website, specifically designed to connect Guardsmen and Reservists with military-friendly civilian employers that have made a stated commitment to hire veterans. The Mobile Job Store also provides service members assistance with resume building and translating their military skills to civilian job qualifications. Sgt. Maj. Wayne Bowser, Sr., Senior Enlisted Advisor for Family and Employer Programs and Policy in the Pentagon’s Office of Reserve Affairs, will be on the ground to demonstrate H2H program tools and functionalities.

“We’re proud to provide this empowering tool absolutely free for Guard and Reserve Service members, spouses, veterans and employers,” says Mr. Ronald Young, Director, Family and Employer Programs and Policy. “The Mobile Job Store is just a small part of H2H’s focused effort to help service members and their spouses find employment through various activities including employment assistance workshops, job fairs, employment summits, and many other local community programs.”

The Mobile Job Store is traveling across the country to help members of the Guard and Reserve find employment through the H2H program. The D.C. Armory will mark the second stop the Mobile Job Store has made in the D.C. area, following an event May 16 at Joint Base Andrews.

Get to know the Character of a Company

To look at the character of an individual, you have to go deeper than just one thing they say.  Employers who are interested in bringing somebody on board with their company are more than likely going to research candidates online to see further into their character.

Social Media opens these doors, but also gives an open door for the interviewer to get a good look into the character of the company as well.

Reading a mission statement and an “about” section on a website is good, but to get a better idea of who they are, here’s some quick tips. Continue reading

What ‘To-Do’ With Task Lists

By definition, a ‘to-do’ list is a technique for organizing and defining the tasks one needs to complete within a specified period of time. Writing a list is a convenient way to compile information, and takes the guesswork out of having accurate recall. These lists usually take form with an assortment of errands and projects that are thrown together in one large chunk. The idea behind the list is efficiency, but not all ‘to-do’ lists are created equal. Continue reading
